6. Siam – Where to stay in Bangkok for shopping & families
If your Bangkok trip includes shopping sprees or you’re traveling with kids, Siam is the place to be. This central neighborhood is packed with mega-malls, fun attractions, and everything from luxury brands to bargain fashion. It’s a great area to stay for families, shopaholics, and anyone looking for convenience, entertainment, and air conditioning.
Siam is home to Bangkok’s most famous shopping centers: Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, Siam Center, and MBK. Whether you’re after designer labels, quirky local boutiques, or tech gadgets, it’s all here. You’ll also find plenty of restaurants, cafes, international chains, and giant food courts, ideal when you need a break from the heat or just want something quick and easy.
Families will especially enjoy SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World, a large underground aquarium, and KidZania, an interactive city where kids can roleplay adult jobs. For a bit of culture, check out the nearby Jim Thompson House, a beautifully preserved traditional Thai home-turned-museum that’s easy to visit between shopping sprees.
While we haven’t personally stayed overnight in Siam, we often spend a lot of time here. It’s super well-connected, Siam BTS Station is a major interchange that links both BTS lines—so getting anywhere in the city is a breeze. It’s also fairly central, making it easy to reach areas like the Old Town, Chinatown, or Sukhumvit.
That said, Siam isn’t the most authentic or quiet part of Bangkok. It’s busy, especially on weekends, and more polished than charming. But if you want to be in the middle of everything, with malls, cinemas, and activities right outside your door, it’s a great choice.

7. Silom – Where to stay in Bangkok for business travelers & nightlife
If you’re visiting Bangkok for business or want to mix work with fun, Silom is one of the best areas to stay. Known as the city’s financial district, Silom is home to office towers, high-end hotels, rooftop bars, and a surprising amount of green space and nightlife. It has a little bit of everything, and thanks to its excellent transport links, it’s easy to get around from here.
During the day, Silom hums with business activity. But once the sun sets, it transforms into a lively entertainment hub. The Patpong Night Market is one of the area’s best-known spots, with everything from souvenirs and knock-off goods to bars and shows (some parts are more notorious than others). If you’re more into sky-high views, head to the Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower, famous for its golden dome and 360° city views. Another standout is Vertigo & Moon Bar on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel, perfect for sunset drinks or a fancy dinner.
Silom is also a great choice for food lovers. Soi Convent (Silom Soi 20) is packed with local food stalls and casual restaurants serving authentic Thai dishes, while the main streets feature everything from sushi bars to Indian curry houses and high-end bistros.
If you need a breather from the buzz, take a walk in Lumphini Park, Bangkok’s answer to Central Park. It’s a peaceful escape surrounded by skyscrapers, great for a morning jog or just a shady break in the afternoon.
Silom is super well-connected via both the BTS Skytrain (Sala Daeng) and MRT subway (Silom Station), which makes it easy to explore the city. It’s also more moderately priced than areas like Riverside or Sukhumvit, while still offering plenty of comfort and convenience.

If you’re a foodie on a budget or a savvy shopper hunting for great deals, Pratunam is a smart choice for where to stay in Bangkok. This mostly residential neighborhood might not have the glitz of Sukhumvit or the riverside views, but it makes up for it with affordability, local flavor, and plenty of shopping.
Pratunam is famous for its bustling wholesale markets where you can find clothes, accessories, and textiles at unbeatable prices. The Pratunam Wholesale Market is a must-visit for anyone who loves to haggle and score fashion bargains. If tech gadgets are more your thing, don’t miss Pantip Plaza, a huge electronics mall packed with everything from phones to cameras.
Food lovers will enjoy the variety here, too. From street stalls serving authentic Thai dishes to casual restaurants and international eats, Pratunam offers plenty of options without the tourist price tag. While Pratunam itself isn’t a nightlife hotspot, its lively streets are full of everyday Bangkok life.
Getting around is easy, thanks to nearby Victory Monument, one of the city’s major transport hubs. The BTS Skytrain and buses connect you quickly to the rest of Bangkok. Plus, Pratunam’s location means you’re just a short walk or ride from Siam’s shopping malls, but with generally cheaper accommodation rates. We have been staying near Ratchatewi in the Pratunam area on our last two visits, and can highly recommend!

9. Bonus: Ari & Chatuchak – Best for digital nomads & long-term visitors
While not the top pick for first-time tourists, Ari and Chatuchak are fantastic neighborhoods for digital nomads or anyone planning a longer stay in Bangkok.
Ari is a trendy, laid-back area known for its cool cafés, boutique shops, and relaxed vibe. It’s popular with young Thais and expats who love the quiet streets filled with hip restaurants & cozy coffee spots. It’s a great place to settle in if you want a calm base away from the city’s busiest tourist hubs but still close enough to explore easily.
Chatuchak is best known for the world-famous Chatuchak Weekend Market, a sprawling maze of thousands of stalls selling everything from clothes to antiques and street food. Beyond the market, the area is more residential and less touristy, offering affordable apartments, green spaces like Chatuchak Park, close to Jodd Fairs night market and good transport links via the BTS and MRT. This makes it perfect for those who want a mix of local life and convenient city access. In early 2025, we rented an apartment for a month, and it was the perfect home base with many local food places around!
Both neighborhoods give a more authentic slice of Bangkok’s daily rhythm, with a strong community feel and plenty of lifestyle amenities geared toward longer stays.
